Black mold remediation is the complete process, start to finish – not just removing what's visible, but finding what caused it, removing contaminated material safely, treating the space, and confirming with testing that it's actually resolved. It's the full job, where black mold removal alone might just be the middle step.
We walk Hilo, HI homeowners through this from the first call when black mold has been confirmed or strongly suspected, especially after a flood, long-term leak, or a home that's sat with high humidity for an extended period. It's also common after a home inspection during a sale flags dark mold growth that needs to be resolved before closing.
The process starts with inspection and moisture source identification – we're not treating anything until we know what's feeding the mold. From there, we contain the area, remove contaminated material with proper PPE and negative air pressure to protect the rest of the home, and treat remaining surfaces with an antimicrobial solution. If the moisture source needs a physical repair – a plumbing fix, grading work, or a missing vapor barrier – we'll lay that out clearly, since skipping it means the mold comes back. Once the work is done, we recommend clearance testing through an independent lab so you have documented proof the space is safe.
Cost varies based on how far the contamination has spread, what repairs the moisture source needs, and whether clearance testing is included.
